Campfire Conditions of Use

Lake Gkula Camping

  • Limited firewood is available for purchase at the General Store, if supplying your own it must be clean, seasoned and untreated timber.
  • We ask that you don’t cut down trees or pull branches while on site – even fallen branches provide important shelter for local wildlife. To help protect the environment, anyone found removing or damaging trees may be asked to leave the campsite without a refund.
  • Always check the weather conditions in your camping area before lighting a fire. Do not light or maintain a campfire on dry, windy days.
  • Firepits must be elevated at least 200mm off the ground, with fires contained in a brazier or fire ring. Ground fires are not permitted.
  • You are required to have a water source located on hand including a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher nearby for emergencies.
  • A responsible person aged 18 years or over should oversee the campfire. It must never be left unattended until it has been extinguished.
  • Always supervise young children around a fire.
  • Fires must be kept to a manageable size (no larger than 1 metre in diameter), bonfires or excessive flames are not allowed.
  • Ensure your campfire is positioned in a cleared area with no overhanging branches—at least 2 m away from tents, marquee’s and that other camping equipment is stored well away, especially flammable items.
  • Always put the fire out with water before going to bed or when you leave your campsite—use water, not sand, which keep their heat and can cause severe burns. Even a few glowing embers can start a wildfire.
  • Braziers or campfires are not permitted on your glamping tent balcony or within 2 metres of your glamping tent.

Emergency Procedures

Fire Escalation: If the fire spreads beyond control:

  • Step 1: Call 000 immediately.
  • Step 2: Call the Event Manager on duty and report the incident.
  • Step 3: If deemed safe use available resources (water, fire extinguishers) to contain the fire.
  • Step 4: Evacuate the area if necessary.

Note: First Aid kits will be located at the General Store. Campers are advised to also bring their own first aid kits.

  • Fire extinguishers will be located throughout the campsite and at the General Store. A map of fire extinguisher locations will be provided to patrons at check in and erected at key points across the site.
  • During an event Woodfordia staff will conduct regular checks of fire pits and surrounding areas for compliance and safety.
  • Leave No Trace: Patrons are asked to ensure the area is left clean and free of debris.
  • Wildlife Protection: Patrons are asked to avoid disturbing wildlife habitats when selecting fire sites.

If the Conditions of Use aren’t being adhered to, Woodfordia Ltd may ask you to put out your campfire for the safety and comfort of everyone on site.

Campground Management reserve the right to prohibit campfires at any time due to weather or safety concerns, even if no official fire ban is in place.
