We thank all the volunteers from the Easter Lake Gkula Camping crew for the care they put into their roles, their attention to all the little details that helped create the magic, and their generosity of spirit that was felt by our patrons in every interaction.
Lake Gkula Camping is proudly run by volunteers, with a small and varied crew who come to lend their time to running the campground, cleaning amenities, serving food and drink in the Lake Gkula Bar & BBQ, selling sundries and merchandise in the General Store, and more. Volunteers are also needed to assist us in preparing the site in the setup and cleaning up afterwards.
Whether you can come for the whole two weeks, or just for a few days, there are plenty of options for getting involved and creating a campground with a special vibe.
Applications for Spring Lake Gkula Camping 2026 are now open for returning and new volunteers.
All returning volunteers were emailed an invite with their returning volunteer codes to apply with priority. If you are a Returning Volunteer and did not receive your codes, please email volunteers@woodfordia.com to have them sent to you.
Apply hereVolunteers are asked to 4 – 5 hours per day for a minimum of 3 days.
All volunteers will receive 3 meals per day while they are volunteering. Setup & pack down volunteers may be given a food allowance instead of having meals prepared for them.
Any volunteer who comes and donates 7+ days of their time towards the camp is eligible to bring a “plus one” (partner/friend/family member) with them OR stay and camp for another week. The extra days of camping can only extend until the end of the camp itself (20 April) as we need to clear the site to prepare for The Planting.
All volunteers are able to bring up to two children/toddlers (age 0 – 12yrs) with them at no cost. Please contact the office (reception@woodfordia.com) to organise complimentary tickets for your children. This offer does not include youth (13 – 17years) however we do accept youth volunteers.
We will do our best to get back to you within ONE week of applying. If you haven’t heard from us after a week, please email volunteers@woodfordia.com and give us a gentle nudge.

Cashier
- Provide friendly efficient service in the General Store which includes operation of cash register (Square terminal) and EFTPOS terminal
- Clean and tidy the store including sweeping, mopping, dusting. Water plants daily.
- Restock where appropriate – keep a close eye on fast moving products in fridge and freezer. These items should look abundant at all times.
- Move around the store during quiet times (take your til key with you) ensure everything looks orderly and is adequately priced. Actively engage with customers and offer help.
- Requires people with cash handling and customer service skills. Square point of sale experience preferred
Set Up/Pack Down
Requires people with basic math skills, the ability to lift and carry 10kg and do physical work.
A variety of jobs as required to set-up and stock the General Store, including but not limited to cleaning, driving, preparing stock, receiving stock, stocking shelves, pricing stock, using spreadsheets, merchandising, making coffee, cash handling, customer service, point of sale, and other fun tasks.
A mixture of different skills is needed for this team – an eye for creative setups, good administration skills, handy with tools, detail oriented
Lake Lifesaver
- Keep an eye on people swimming in the lake and ensure their safety. Encourage swimmers to abide by the lake safety guidelines. Aim to prevent issues and respond to emergencies if necessary.
- Requires people with Pool lifeguard/ Surf Bronze/ Teacher of swimming/ Bronze Medallion qualification (or equivalent) plus current CPR.
- Observers are at least 16yrs old. Experience in lifeguarding or aquatic activities is preferred.
- Shifts are between 7am and 4:30pm
Lake Educator
A great position for someone who loves the ecology of the lake, safety and talking to people. Mermaids and Mermen are especially welcome to apply
Requires people who have a strong passion for Lake Gkula and can share that passion with our patrons while also relaying the important safety points in the Lake Lore

Bartender
RSA certificate is preferred but not essential
Service of alcohol to patrons including wine, spirits and beer in cans. Keeping the bar stocked, cleaning, moving supplies/equipment, managing stock and checking customer identification. Set up and/or pack down of bar. Willingness to work late (generally around 10pm)
The bar is attached to the General Store, overlooking Lake Gkula. Requires people with great customer service skills
Site Crew (during the camp)
- Remove full waste bins and replace with empty ones, some rubbish sorting to ensure our waste streams are kept clean
- Responding to site-related issues, so folks who are handy, possibly even possessing plumbing skills are encouraged to apply
- Requires people who are physically fit, can lift up to 10kg, able to light fires and loves to do a variety of tasks
Set up / Pack down (before or after the camp)
Get the site ready and looking spectacular for our patrons, and/or clean and put it all away again at the end
A variety of jobs to be done, including distribution of plants, tables and chairs, bins, erecting signs, landscaping, brush cutting, installing lanterns
Requires people who are physically fit and able to lift and carry up to 10kg
Kitchen Assistant
- Help make delicious food in mass quantities to serve the campers and crew
- General kitchen hand duties, including food preparation, cleaning and washing up
- Commercial kitchen experience preferred
Barista
May involve plating of cakes/pastries and service of a small selection of ready-made food items.
Making coffee, prepping, selling cold drinks, cleaning. Cash handling. Bringing smiles to the faces of the patrons at the General Store Cafe
Barista experience is required, with professional references
Requires people with cash handling and customer service skills. Square point of sale experience preferred
Breakfast Crew
- Set up kitchen for Breakfast service and pack down of Kitchen ready for Lunch shift.
- Heating and serving food like bacon ‘n egg rolls, continental style breakfasts, food prep, cleaning.
- May requires cash handling and use of a Square terminal
- Preparing and serving a variety of smoothies while interacting with customers in a welcoming manner
- Requires people who can reliably wake up early and be ready for work by 6:00am
Lunch Crew
- Heating and serving food like toasties, salads, chips and more. Food prep, cleaning. Requires cash handling and use of a Square terminal
- Preparing and serving a variety of smoothies while interacting with customers in a welcoming manner
- For folks that are happy to work the middle part of the day, shifts generally from 10am – 2pm or 12noon – 4pm
Dinner Crew
For folks that are happy to work evenings so they can have their days off, with shifts from 4pm – 8pm or 5pm – 9pm
Heating and serving food like stews, fish, curries, chips and more. Food prep, cleaning. Requires cash handling and use of a Square terminal
Preparing and serving dinner while interacting with customers in a welcoming manner
Fire Keepers
Requires people who are physically fit and able to lift and carry up to 10kg
Ensure adequate firewood for each fire ring, fire safety kits are present, signage is still in place
Light fires and monitor them until they are being cared for by patrons
Glamping Tent Housekeeping
- Assist with general housekeeping duties including stripping and remaking beds, clearing rubbish, cleaning BBQ’s, sweeping, vacuuming, wiping down surfaces
- Work alongside the Housekeeping Supervisor to ensure our glamping tents are sparkling clean and set up ready for our glamping guests to enjoy
- Requires people who are physically fit
- Shifts are available 7 days per week, hours are generally between 10am-2pm each day.
Office Reception
- Welcome patrons and volunteers as they arrive, answer phone calls
- Ensure all have the correct information, vehicle passes, necessary directions, etc
- Need to be good on computers and at customer service
- Shifts available:
- Thursday – Sunday 9am-5pm.
- Preference given to people willing to do a double shift on the weekend (8hrs) and in return, will be given additional days off.
Tea House Helper
Shifts are from 9am – 11am and 2pm – 4pm so requires people happy to do split shifts
Help serve tea and cakes in the Tea House, wash cups and keep the area clean and safe
Customer oriented, enjoys tea, sense of humour
Workshop Assistant
- Assist artists and tutors with workshop set up, clean up and as directed if required during workshops. Take attendance and/or payments using a Square/EFTPOS terminal
- Requires people who are helpful, tidy, organised, friendly and have a sense of humour
- Shifts may be split and are dependent on the programme
Venue Manager
Shifts will start late afternoon and go into the early evening, roughly 4pm – 8pm
Liaise with the artists and presenters and production crew, some MC’ing, cleaning the venue (including sweeping and straightening tables and chairs), getting folks excited about the programme
Great experience for someone looking to get into stage/venue management
